... Sadly, it wasn't cold enough at the wedding to use my masterpiece ... which for everyone attending the wedding was great news.

... is working on finishing my Goldwork Pashmina ....

... but I really want to continue playing with this ....

... Anni Downs' lovely Tea party Table Runner, using Anni's new fabric range 'My Favourite Things'... I just love it, cream, pale pink, soft pinks and greens, beautiful dusty blue and a soft brown ...

... playing with little 3/4 inch hexagons is what I did over the weekend, instead of working on my pashmina ...

... now I have to be really strong with myself and reach a certain level each day before I can do any more ....

Now I'm going to be burning the midnight oil, to finish the pashmina by Saturday.

This was one of the main classes I did at Koala Convention this year ... I just love this project ... goldwork, beetle wings and lots and lots of tacking.

... I must have rocks in my hear :-))) ...

... but,it is beautiful ...

... the tacking alone, took me 10 hours and after a 2 day class I had learnt all the stitches etc, but, if you looked at my stretcher, I didn't have much to show for 2 days work. I have been working on it a lot since I did the class back in July but, I can see that the end is near ...

I have to finish ...

- the treble clef's along the bottom

- 1 Small flower with Garnet centre

- padding 1 last flower

- 4 purl /Beetle-wing flowers

- then the last stems, trendrils and leaves

- the centre on the top flower

- then, unpick the seen tacking stitches...

So, to keep me stitching, I have decided to post a progress report every day ...

So, come Sunday I can go back to the lovely little Table runner ...

... I will have some Table Runner kits available soon ...

... I'm going to make a coffee and do some serious stitching on my pashmina ...

...'til tomorrow...

... is about all I can use to describe my finished piece of Stumpwork...

... I first mentioned this project way back here ...

This piece was the designed by Alison Cole for her class at Koala Convention last year. Having never done any stumpwork before I didn't know what was ahead of me, but I just loved this piece, so the best way to learn is to do the class.

So, using one strand of the lovely Colour Stream Stranded Silk threads, I started making petals and leaves, once enough petal and leaves were completed, I could start putting it together with finishing touches of little silk ribbon flowers as fillers and accents in goldwork threads.

I was in heaven, stitching this project, with many hours of stitching, I have only just finished this beautiful project. Now, all that is left to do is to take my finished piece and the lovely gold oval frame to a framer to have it assembled.

These threads are beautiful wonderful to work with especially on the rich purplish/gold silk. I may just have to do another project with these colour combinations.

... I can say that I did have a very productive night stitching ...

... but it has taken me a little longer than I thought, to sharing my progress for the FNSI held last month...

I was able to finish 2 mini workshop projects from Koala Convention that I attended in early July.

My first finish was to machine sew the pages into my 'Dragonfly Needlebook'

I can now use my Jenny Bee mini workshop needle book.

I added the twisted cord to the edges of the book so that I can tie the book closed.

Then, I worked on putting my 'Ruby Bell' together...

... this is a lovely little goldwork, Christmas decoration by Alison Cole. Both sides of the bell are decorated.

This decoration is so cute I have started another one, to have as a handbag project ... some exciting stitching while I sit and wait ...

A few things finished ...

... yes, I can say I have gotten a few things finished over the last few days. It's a great feeling ...

First ... was the bookwork for the P and C, I have the Treasurers job .. they have now been delivered to the Auditors ... this was a great finish.

Second ... was the stitching to block 1 of Vignette

The little missing body for the bottom butterfly has been added since this photo was taken.

I have also cut up my fabric pieces for block 2 and 3 ... now to trace the stitchery patterns and piece the blocks.

... was caused when I collected the mail yesterday. So many parcels ... yes, I forgot to take a photo! Once everything was opened I didn't forget a few photos ...

There was excitement plus with ...

... a sample reel Cosmo Multi-thread ...

... this is a 2 strand thread, exactly the same as Cosmo 25 Stranded Thread only on a reel ...

... just cut it, thread it and stitch...

... it certainly feels the same as a skein...

... trying to show how great the thread looks ...

... quickly decided this colour works so well with Pom Pom de Paris from French General ...

... once I have done a little stitching, I will share what I think...

... so am going to use it for the stitching thread in the 'stitch-a-long' I have joined, these are some of my fabric choices ...

Chain stitch tips ...

... while stitching chain stitch flowers for my 'Vignette in Stitches' block today, I gave some thought on how to finish each flower so the start or finish isn't noticeable.

I photographed the steps, for the last stitch and will try to explain :-)).

step 1 - bring the tread for the last stitch to the outside of your flower

step 2 - take your needle and slip it under your first chain stitch ... be careful not to catch your threads.

step 3 - pull your thread through and then go back down beside where your thread came up, at the start your last stitch

step 4 - pull the thread through and there you have the finished flower.

As you can see my progress has been slow, I'm now stitching flowers !

Where the Wind Blows

...is a beautiful fabric range from Melanie Hurlston's of who designs under the name of Melly & Me is available in fat quarter bundles, fat eight bundles, individual fat quarters and by the metre, see here for more details.

Leanne has used 'Where the Wind Blows' in a project in Issue 2 of Vignette.

The next issue of Vignette, is due to be released on about the 1st of March ... I have heard whispers that it could even be as early as, last week in February.... exciting news!!

This has been the highest the Weir River in a very long time ... it is even higher than the floods of Dec 1970. Older locals are saying as high or higher than '56 Floods'

Harvest ...

... it is a little exciting around here at the moment ...

Firstly, all the lovely rain that we have been having and we have had a lot.

It truly is wonderful but, has caused a few problems with harvest ...

... this has happened a couple of times ... which makes for a not so happy farmer.

I had the fun job of driving the tractor to pull the header out of the bog !

We have had so much rain that I don't know when we will get back out to the paddock to finish harvesting.

In the last 9 days we have had 93.5mm or 374points of rain.

The other bit of excitement is

I am going to start a little online fabric and handmade gift store via big cartel store .

So, I am hoping to be able to share my love of beautiful fabric and wonderful designs by the talented Australian designers.

... yes, I most certainly do have a case of 'excitement plus' at the moment!

Why ...

... it has taken me many weeks to finally decide to attend Koala Convention next week. I am enrolled to do 'Stumpwork' with Alison Cole for 2 days - 'Victorian Elegance' is the name of the little project I'm going to be attempting.

I will share photos of the event and my project.

Having attend classes before at Koala Convention, I have had a wonderful time and learnt alot. If you ever get the opportunity to attend such an event as Koala - it is worth every cent.

For some funny reason I am having trouble giving a link to the Koala information - but, just put 'Koala Convention' in a search and you should be able read all about this wonderful event that is an annual event in Brisbane.

More bead play ...

... yes, I'm still playing with beads!!

This time creating this lovely bridal charm, combining ribbon roses and beading and basic tassel making.

A close up of one side - both sides are the same,so the charm has no specific front and back.

I found this project time consuming but I loved every minute of stitching!

Also, I have just listed this charm on Etsy!

I think the black and pink is such a pretty combination.

I think that this pink and silver combination is just so dainty for this needle threader.

I will say that my embroidery scissory have bling - like most people - I don't offen get to use what I make as more than likely they are gifts.

Tomorrow's job is to list them on etsy and made it!

I've done it ...

... what have I done ?

I've gone and opened both an Etsy and Made It stores! I have been wanting to do this for some time now and have only just done so.

Both stores only have 1 item each listed at the moment - please don't laugh that much! I have quite a few items that were returned from previous Bush Christmas' that I am plan list - just need to take the photos. Both stores will have similar items so if you are in Australia it maybe easier to purchase from Made It.

I know that it is some time since I last blogged, but I have been busy with farm work, floods, we actually got away on a 9 day holiday in early March, pieced 'Down in the Garden' Quilt blocks and other stuff. I have managed to finish blocks 1 and 3 of 'Down in the Garden', and working on blocks 2 and 5 - these are both half done ! Block five is the one with the stitched verse and lots of other stitching!

Have done a little secret stitching for Lisa at Precious Time - which I have enjoyed ... thank you Lisa for asking me!

So, bye for now, I'm off to work on 'Down in the Garden' before it's school collection time!

Retreat ...

... what a week, busy stitching, washing walls and ...

... in the mail I yesterday received this lovely PIF treasure bag from Cheryl . It has a lovely old world/vintage look. This bag is beautifully made with a little extra detail of pretty large glass beads on the ends of the ribbon pulls.

It is lovely Cheryl, thank you!

... and this lovely bag even had contents ....

Earlier in the week Cheryl had a little guessing competition and I was lucky enough that my guess was correct and I received these little treasures as my prize ...

... these 4 cute little bottles of seed beads and 3 very yummy pieces of fabric, tied together with pretty pink dotted chocolate ribbon.

They are all so lovely and special Cheryl, thank you - I will find a special Willowberry Designs to use these lovelies on, and until then they will be kept safe in the special bag they came in.

Last weekend I made myself a stitching bag using Rosalie Quinlan's lovely vinyl from her fabric range 'Grandmother's Flower Garden'. I wanted to be able to fit my 5" hoop, mini thread box and a couple of pieces of stitching.

This is what I came up with ...

... it even has an inserted zip and a handle ...

... bound it with a matching pink fabric from the range also, I did lined it with a Lecien basic pink spot fabric.

I have to say that Lecien vinyl is such a breeze to sew with, so soft and flexible and moves under the machine so nicely. I am going to make a couple of other items using this vinyl, it is such a joy to sew.

A finish for the month :-)), what a week!

Very Precious ...

... to me my stitching is very precious, as it keeps me content. So, thought it was very appropriate for me to stitch one of Leanne Beasley's new designs called 'Precious Things'.

I used one of the pretty green prints from my favourite range 'Aviary'. My stitchery is on an Aviary woven in green ... so nice to stitch on ... my thread choice was 'Cosmo' and yes, it is wonderful to stitch with.

Now, I'm off to pack some stitching into my little bag, need my stitching over the next few days. Off to Brisbane for DS checkups.

More finsishes ...

... I can honestly say that this year so far, I have been able to deplete my UFO pile ... even if only a little!! Yes, this first quilt is from my UFO pile

This quilt has a 'French Country' feel with a Scallop edge.

I made this quilt at a class about 5 years ago, for the techniques of mitered corners and scallop binding ... it is in very classic colours of Navy and Cream ... my first colour love ... but you can only have so many items in these colours.

Wait for it ...

... I only had to sew the binding on in scallops and then hand sew the binding on. Now it is being very used in our living area. Yes, it really is that dry outside, at the moment!

Then ...

Little Patchwork Village Wall Quilt by Rosalie Quinlan Designs. Unfortunately, this photo isn't great, but it does show that I have finished it.

I'm happy with the way it has come together, disappointed that I could have probably used a darker thread. But love it in 'Aviary'.

This was a project that I carried in my bag and would stitch when I had a spare moment. I have found this great, now I always have some stitching in my bag to help pass the time.

A new look ...

... finally finished covering this old lamp shade that I started, what seems like months ago ... all I had left to do was, glue the gimp braid to the top! I'm rather happy with my first attempt at covering a lamp shade!

I have a few other projects that I have finished over the last couple of days, but need to take photos first.

... here is my finished version of 'Verandah Views' (hanging in my sewing room) which was designed by the clever Cheryl as a free BOM last year. This year Cheryl is offering 'Under the Sea', a very pretty BOM with colouring !

My first finish for 2010! The first of many to be added to my OPAM list ... I hope!

Just a quick update on 'Breast of Friends',I have finally finished stitching, Natalie Lymer's wonderful block ... so love this one, just a great collection of pink and green with a little brown.

I'm going to try and aim for another finish today ... to quilt my Patchwork Village Neighbourhood wall hanging.

Just quickly, I wanted to share that DS is still progress very well, now using elbow crutchers (or Canadian Crutchers) and even down to on around the house, he got a good physio report yesterday, which was good for both him and I. He is starting to get itchy feet and wanting to do a few things ... so to me this is a good sign of him starting to feel better. :-))

A little late ...

... but Happy New Year ...

... please accept my late new year wishes. I hope that 2010 is a wonderful year for all be it in health or creativity. I have already made some choices as to what I wish to stitch this year.

The latter half of December has been a very stressful time for us. As our son had an accident off a quad bike on the 13th (being a boy) and was air lifted by the Royal Flying Doctor to the Mater Children's Private Hospital in Brisbane. He has had 2 ops and had recovered enough to be discharged late Christmas Eve, but due to being a 5 hour trip home we chose to leave Christmas morning and finally got home at about 6pm Christmas day - after having lunch with DH family in Toowoomba and a 4 hour rest for DS. It was very nice to get home!

DS came to a sudden stop which caused him impaled himself on the left hand handle grip and the brake leaver which, pierced his stomach... (DH and 2 adults were with him when the accident happened), thankfully, he hit nothing major in his tummy - the tummy has been healing very well. We do have a hurdle of his right leg developed 2 clots and some temporary nerve damage (this is from the accident) ... with physio and determination the nerve is repairing itself, he already has more leg feeling than he did a week ago. For the clots he is on medication twice a day.

Surprisingly, DS is now cruising around on crutches, surprising everyone with how well he is recovering and being a very good patient for his stressed parents. Unfortunately, accidents like this are just part of rural life.

Through all my 12 days of sitting in the hospital, I did have my stitching to help pass the hours. Finished stitching the blocks for 'Little Patchwork Village Wall hanging' by Rosalie Quinlan, now I can start piecing the blocks and put it together.

Also, have to share with everyone we have had some rain, not as much as some in the district but some is better than none! The green grass is coming and the days have been cooler ... great sleeping weather!!!

I do hope that 2010 is a great year for everyone and look forward to sharing more of my stitching projects with everyone.

'Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree.

I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.

Could it be a fat quarter or a pattern or lace?

Or a quilt kit, I said, with a smile on my face.

And that's when I heard him,

"Hi Santa," I said

"You know ... good little girls should be in their beds".

"I know I should Santa, and now I've been caught.

But I was just so excited to see what you brought"

"Well, let's take a look in this room where you work."

He shook his head quickly, and left with a jerk.

I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear.

'You've got enough stuff, I'll see you next year!"

Busy... busy...busy...

... Yes, I have been so busy, with no time to blog ... doing a lot of this ...

'Gerty and I have been very busy quilting small quilts to send to Bush Christmas in Toowoomba ... sent everything off Tuesday last week ... pick up any unsold items on Sunday. 'Gerty Gammill', we have been friends for over 4 years now. This photo was taken sometime during my sewing frenzy ... this photo is looking through the window to our front yard and yes, it really is that dry here at the moment.

Then did a mad making frenzy for a garden market that was in town on Saturday... had a great day.

Now, I'm in need of some very much needed 'me' sewing time!

Now I have cleaned my sewing room, put everything away that needs to be put away, caught up on some sleep and now I have a lot of time for this little one...

Introducing ... 'Fritz'. Fritz joined our family on Monday afternoon, he is almost 8 weeks old and a miniature Dachshund... my favourite breed of dog.

This photo is of him sitting behind me, across the back of my neck ... he put himself here, last night while I was trying to stitch!

... Fritz playing with a chewing bone toy ... yes, it is almost as big as he is!

I'm now off to finish binding my 'Verandah Veiws'.

What a find ...

... late last week we heard about this wonderful pedal car that was to be in a garage sale on Saturday.

We rang, made an offer and now we are the lucky owners of this...

Cyclops Crane Truck

... all that was missing, one rear wheel and a hook for the crane.

DH is beside himself as to the original condition for a truck that is 50 years old.

Not a lot of stitching at the moment, still busy cleaning from the dust storms.

Sale O... Sale O...

...going to clearing sales is my favourite form of thrifting ... to see if I can find a bargin to take home!

We went to 'Prospect' Clearing sale near Croppa Creek, in northern NSW. It was a well attend sale, we traveled 2 .5 hours to attend. It was a big ... no ... huge sale, so big that 2 auctioneers were required, one auctioning shed stuff and the other on the household bits and pieces.

Even though, in most areas had another dust storm on Saturday ... the sale went on!!!

My only purchase was the top half to a hutch/kitchen dresser, a bargin at $50... I was happy. I knew that it would either fit on a hutch base that I had purchased years ago at a swap or I could put it on top of a table in the sewing room.

So yesterday, we hosed it with the pressure cleaner, then scrubbed, then hosed again... stood it by the shed to dry ... so nothing more could happen to my treasure. We do need to get a piece of glass for one door, otherwise my treasure is complete!

Then today, my husband re nailed the top decorative piece on and then the exciting part came ... we could carry it into the house.

So a quick removal of all that was on my hutch base and ....

... ta da ...

... my treasure ... is sitting proudly in my sewing room...

So, now I have to decide if I leave it like it is ... in it's true shabby look ... yes, there are snippets of green paint under the cream ... or do I eventually strip it back to timber and varnish to make a matching piece... I'll leave that to another day... what do you think?

... yes, I haven't had time to shift my wall hanging in all the excitement ... but don't worry it isn't touching the back of my treasure.

... at the moment like most of Australia we are having a great dust storm ...

...this is photo is facing the southwest ... our front yard ... that is the dust in the background. It is noticeable as to how dry it is looking again!

... on my Breast of Friends BOM by Homespun, so far, still have 4 blocks to finish .

This is block 1 by Leanne Beasley ...

... I did the swirls in satin stitch and am happy with they way the block came together... it did take a long time to stitch.

Then Annie Downs lovely 'shopping' block ...

... have just realised that I still need to add the shoe buckles on the appliqued shoes.

These are two of the gorgeous blocks by Bronwyn Hayes

... loved doing these quick blocks. Still have to add the beads when the quilt is together.

This last photo (which isn't the best) is a combination of Rosalie Quinlan blocks and Lynette Anderson

... these blocks have needle turn applique, which I have attempted, which is a first for me and I'm rather pleased with the finished look of these blocks.

A little bit of Bling...

... on my new machine cover and on a few extra little sewing accessories !

At the last minute I decided do enter the 'August Sewing Machine Cover Challenge' that Jenny has running on her blog at the moment and Cheryl has kindly added a little encouragement also. Thanks to both of you for the encouragement !

Back in July for my 'Gift of Love class' project at Precious Time under the wonderful instructor Sharon, we started a cover for our much loved machines - I did say started! I had chosen my fabrics from the 'Aviary' range, even included a bit of blue. I based my fabric choices around a piece of 'lace with bling', that I fell in love with when I first saw it!

After our 3 hour class I came home with 3 pieces and my piece of lace bling ... had to go through the stash to see what else I could find that would match my fabric choice ... found the lovely braid that I'd had for some time, in correct colours, was great to use some of this braid as I have had it for a few years. Then set about putting the cover together, then bind and anchored my bling by hand.

I added pockets on both sides and continued the braid around the sides.

I had so much fun doing the cover... decided I would have a little play with more bling ... so I made myself this little pincushion and pretty binding clip (the clip is a yo-yo, a pearl and bling button all sewin' together). Very happy with the way they come together and how great they look with my new machine cover.

Now both my sewing machine and over locker both had pretty covers - the overlocker inherited the one I made earlier in the year. Sorry, no photo - forgot this one, will do it for another post.

A pretty pink, green and a light cream colour combination from the 3 Sister's Range - Simplicity, bound with the dark pinky red. It will easily fit the top of a queen side bed.

And yes, that is my little 'Miss Anna' asleep on the top of the couch cushion - one of her summer sleeping spots!

A make-over ...

... well for my blog. Lately I have noticed a few blogs have ... wait for it ... 3 column blogs ... decided I needed a change ... after about 2 hours ... this is what I have finished with! I'm rather happy with the finished look.

Madly stitching...

... honestly, I have been over the last few weeks and very busy catching up on all the other jobs that needed doing - have achieved a lot, I'm happy to say. But, the time is just getting away... and I'm sure that everyone can agree with me.

I am trying to catch up on my Breast of Friends blocks - only 3 1/2 left to finish, which includes the last 2 from the current 'Homespun'. Am looking forward to putting it all together and getting it hung.

Verandah Views are coming along slowly, am a little behind in my stitching here - but am working on being up to date by the end of the week - that's this weeks night stitching. I have sewn the borders to the blocks I have finished and am very happy with the look. I will share a photo when I'm caught up on the stitching.

I can say that I have actually finished a quilt from my WIP pile. I gave it to friends who have just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary - as special gift for special friends.

This photo is taken over at Tenterfield, NSW, on the cabin bed. It's queen size in a moda range called 'Wuthering Height's' (which came out a few years ago) pinks, creams and a little red. It turned out very pretty. L & J were so excited to receive such a gift.

Also, I've finally got game enough to use the pantograph on my Gammill machine - which I have had for a while now - and in the last few days have quilted 2 large quilts other patch workers.

That's about it for now, I'm going back to my stitching.

Another month almost over.....

... I can't believe that another month has slipped by! Where is the time going? It just seams to be disappearing .....

This month has been so busy with lots happening, even some sad. My thoughts are with those in my family that are grieving at the moment.

Earlier this month, I did manage to put in a few entries into the Needlework section of the local show. Surprisingly, my few entries did well and I received 4 Firsts, 3 Seconds, 2 Thirds and the Needlework Aggregate for the most placing points. I was very excited as I only entered 11 items. All my entries were items that I have finished over the last 12 months.

With everything that has happened I haven't been doing a lot of stitching .... I actually have a bit of a scrap booking bug at the moment. I've been working on my 'Stitchers Journal'. Doing this journal gives me the opportunity to do what I call 'girly scrap booking', it's mostly photo of finished projects, a little information on the project and I can then place any show place cards on the back of the page - will share some photo when I have finished it.

Paddock Veiws ...

At lunch time today we had visitors arrive at our front gate. It looks like Dad Emu and 2 growing chicks. I was able to get rather close, for this photo!

Pleased that Dad didn't come running at me, but that would have meant him coming in our front gate!

At present I am doing a monthly class at Precious Time in Toowoomba called 'Give a Gift of Love' and the project for February was a Red Brolly bag called 'Applique Angel Hanger'. Love the soft colours and was very happy with the finished project - still to find a bell and put on the bottom, when I find one!

I have just been doing a little roaming around blog land and thought I'd share - I have just been reading Cheryl's blog and she has been such a busy, productive girl, check out her new pattern - 'Spring Giggle', it looks great!

With Autumn arriving in our part of the world it is a little cooler today, Cheryl suggested 'a great day for coffee, stitching and chatting'. I will do my best, the coffee and stitching is very possible but the chatting maybe a little harder, being so far from town - my nearest neighbour is 12km's away (that's house to house) - so I'll be chatting to the girls -my dog Anna (my miniature daschund, who is almost 12), Sooty (DH's dog) and Misty (DS's dog).

This is photo of 'the girls' taken a few months ago. The Border Collie in the background is another dog of ours 'Colin'.

Last night I finished a block 3 from Breast of Friends by Natalie Bird. Will share a photo when 'the Boys' come home with my camera. Now I'm working on Block 1 which was Leanne Beasley's block.

Now I'm off to do some serious stitching for the rest of the day!

Going on Camp...

... well the 'boys' are (DH and DS), so I'm home alone until Friday when they are due back. Going to Dubbo Zoo, Canberra and then a sort stop in Sydney. They are going to be so tired when they get home.

So, over the next few days I'm going to have a wonderful time to myself stitching and doing what I please! With the 'girls' (our 3 dogs) keeping me company.

I update on my progress with Verandah Views.

Really enjoyed this one, as I got it finished within hours of Cheryl posting it to her blog.
Still to add the borders to my finished blocks.

Then I had a few days later, Gail's 'Joy' block from 'A Christmas Wish'.

As I'm using 'Mistletoe Manor' range thought I'd use some of the pink fabrics for a little more colour. I love having some pink in my Christmas decorations!

I am still working on 'Breast of Friends' - have not actually finished any more blocks to be able to show my progress but hopefully soon I can. All the applique is done now I am working on the stitchery part. Am loving the way it's coming together using the 'Aviary' range of fabric.

So, now I'm off to decide what I'd like to achieve while the boys are away!

'Aviary' has arrived....

...in my sewing room. It is such a yummy range of fabric by 3 Sisters which has given me some inspiration to give a real sewing bug so I started with a few bits for my sewing room. So, while I've been doing some much needed office work by day. I have been treating myself and making a few little things - to save my sanity!! Office work can get stressful!!

So I have achieved
... a much needed new ironing board cover

and a much need machine cover for my machine (I pleated the pink bias print)

sitting to the side you will see a Jelly Roll and a Sweet Roll in 'Aviary'. The jelly roll is for 'Flowers and Flutterbuys' by Leanne Beasley. The Sweet Roll is for my Willowberry Designs Free BOM - 'Verandah Views' by Cheryl.

Hanging Quilts ...

Thought I'd share with you all a couple of my completed quilts that hang in my home.

'Love is' by Rosalie Quinlan, was a 2006 project.

This is a close up of the center block so that you can see the colours better. I used my favourite fabric range 'Sweet Romance' by Blackbird Designs.
Then I have 'Gardener's Journal' by Annie Downs - this hangs on the verandah - don't stress it isn't sunroom that's just what we call it. Please forgive the poor photography but I had to stand over my son's restored pedal car (I'll share more about the pedal car another day) and try to get this photo.

Gardener's Journal I started not long after the book was released - it was my the first stitchery - which I completed while I had 'chicken pox' at the age of 38 (Easter 2006). It certainly helped me pass the 3 weeks it took me to recover. For Gardeners Journal I used 'Bed of Roses' fabrics by Robyn Randolph which is an older range.

I do have Journey of a Quilter stitched - it isn't quilted, and I am still stitching 'Leanne's House Quilt' - it's on the WIP list.

Something to share....

As I haven't had time to do much over the last few days, so I thought I'd share a photo of a bag I made especially for a niece of my husband for her wedding day.

It is has embroidery and beading on both sides. It took me 7 days to do, but I loved doing every minute. The receiver is a very special person to both my husband and I. Her and her little sister were our flowergirls ,when we got married.

Making this bag, started a passion for making lovely bags, I have made a few others since - need to take photos of them!

A great gift idea...

I have decided to donate this quilt to the local small school, where DS attends for a fundraising item.

When I say small school the whole school at the moment there are 14 children from Prep to Year 7.

The pattern is by Rosalie called 'French Revival'. It is one of the quickest quilt tops to make, it can be put together in about 4 hours, looks great in any colour combination. A great gift!

Quilt progress ...

Over the last few days I have been stitching a little of my 'Leanne's House' Quilt. About 18months ago (while recovering from a hernia operation) I pieced the blocks and put the quilt together - mostly using my 'Sweet Romance' scraps. I even incorporated the blue, yellow and purple in this quilt, but only in small amounts.

- which has been finished for some time - but wanted to show the photo.

Block 2 & 3 have the stitchery completed, but need to finish the applique.

- after many months of sitting in my basket I decided to go back and continue on stitching 'Leanne's House Quilt' and finished block 4 in 2 nights of stitching - very happy with how this quilt is coming together and can't wait to have it hanging in my sewing room.

I even pulled 'Journey of a Quilter' out and attached the borders to it ready to start quilting it - which I hope to do in the next couple of days. The stitchery part has been finished since before I started 'Leanne's House Quilt'.

Can now say that I have finished a block from 'Breast of Friends' - it's one of Bronwyn's small blocks.

I am using Aviary by 3 Sisters for this quilt and at present only have a layer cake to use as metreage isn't available here until next month, so I am limited to how much I can do with this project. The good side is once I have finished what I can of BOF I then go back to a works in progress.

I have started Rosalie's block (block 4) but haven't got very far ! Hopefully, I can get it finished over the weekend.

I plan on having a very productive weekend as the boys have gone trail riding, so I have the weekend to myself! So, I'm now going off to start stitching...

A productive few days....

The boys are away .... been to a swap... and I'll play! Made the most of my free time by stitching. Here's my progress ....

Yesterday, Gail posted block 2 to her blog and with much excitement I was able to complete the block by last night. I am enjoying this BOM, it's a quick stitching one. The fabric is Mistletoe Manor, my words on each block are stitched in a chocolate coloured thread.

Also, Cheryl posted block 2 for Verandah Views on the 1st and its taken me a little longer to stitch this one , actually had to wait for some threads to arrive in Friday's mail. Threads arrived as hoped, I got stitching and was able to finish this pretty block yesterday morning also.

Now I'm off to try and finish some of Breast of Friends before the next Homespun arrives in the mail. Will post a photo when I have finished the block I'm working on.

Crabapple Hill Winter Contest..

I know that this is my second post today, but I wanted to add this bit of news separately.

The fabrics I have used are 'Aviary' by 3 Sisters ... it's amazing what you can create using only pieces from a layer cake!

In December Crabapple Hill announced a Winter Contest. To enter the contest you had to embroider the above design (it's a free download), make it into a completed project and email them a photo of the project. The first person to email their entry by Friday the 16th of January would win a box of Crabapple Hill stitchin' goodies!

Well, I worked out the time difference and sent my entry at about 6.50pm on Friday afternoon (which made it about 12.50am Friday morning at Crabapple Hill Studio) ... unfortunately I wasn't one of the first, think I may have been the 5th or 6th. But, I did get a lovely email from Meg, thanking me for participating in the contest, which was nice.

BOM Finishes...

It is with excitement that I share my first finishes for Block 1 of Verandah Views by Cheryl of Willowberry Designs. I decided to change the thread colours a little so that I can use the new "Aviary" fabrics by 3 Sisters.

My second BOM finish is A Christmas Wish by Gail of Gail Pan Designs. For this one I'm using 'Mistletoe Manor' fabric from my stash by Blackbird Designs.

Both of these BOM's can be found by clicking on the highlighted block name.

I can also say, Block 2 of' 'Breast of Friends' by Bronwyn Hayes, has been pieced and am now stitching. Will post a photo when I have finished stitching. 'Breast of Friends' blocks can be found in Homespun Magazine.

The fabric basket craze is taking hold. This wonderful little basket was so quick to make, a great way to use up some of those stash bits. This wonderful little fabric basket which is a tutorial found on the Pink Penguin Blog. Thank you Cheryl for sharing this wonderful tutorial with me!

My first PIF...

I wanted to post this wonderful PIF as a separate post, that is why I have done a second entry.

In the mail on Tuesdays was my PIF from Kerry. Kerry made a lovely bag and in my favourite colours of pink and green. It even had a little wooden butterfly button with a loop to close the bag and lovely colourful pom poms across the front. Thank you very much Kerry.

I have a few months left, to forward my PIF's on - I have been thinking of what I will make for my 3 lucky recipients.

Great plans for 2009 ...

Firstly, a very late happy New Year to all.

Over the last few days I have been thinking of what BOM's I'd like to do this year. I have found two, very nice one's, they can be found on Cheryl's blog and Gail's blog. Now I have to decide what fabrics to use.

When I was in town on Tuesday I grabbed a copy of the latest Homespun, Issue 68 - Vol 10 No 1, and what did I find but another BOM. This one is called 'Breast of Friends' which a few very talented designs have designed block for and then another talented person has put them all together to create a big quilt. It will be published in parts over the next 8 months. I must say that I really like the first 2 blocks that are published and the snippets of those that are to come. The designers are Leanne Beasley, Rosalie Quinlan, Annie Downs, Bronwyn Hayes, Natalie Lymer, Amanda Browning, Lynette Anderson O'Rourke and Natalie Bird (sorry, no links for Bronwyn or Natalie). What a wonderful combination of designers. Can't wait to start this one!! Again, I need to decide on fabrics, really would like to use some from my stash!

So, I have a few stitching projects planned for the year long along with a few pieced quilts I wish to make. For the quilts I am wanting to use the new 3 Sisters range that is coming out in March 'Aviary' - it's yummy!! Can confirm this as I got a layer cake as part of a Xmas present.

Now, I'm off to start planning some fabrics for these BOM's that I have mentioned.

A personal finish for November ...

I have finally finished my first pincushion from the Pincushion BOM that Sarah from Quilt Fabric Delights is running. I still have two to complete - maybe I'll get to them before the December on arrives!

I have really enjoyed this one as it's from one of my favourite designers Crabapple Hill Studio.

Just love the finished look of the flower and the beaded centre. The special rose pin is so sweet, it came as apart of the kit.

This was an email I received today, I liked it so much that I just had to share it some more.

The History of Apron's

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion Was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the Warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms... Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over The hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that Apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.. After The peas Had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that "old-time apron" that served so many purposes.

This is for those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

REMEMBER:
Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.
Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron--except love.

Finally, I'm back to updating my blog. With a new look from the clever Allie Brown , go and check out her blog and her latest giveaway.

I have been absent from blogland for several reasons, health and major computer problems. With the computer problems it has been slow finding all the bits I lost but with a new computer and broadband I am now learning alot of exciting things.

Look what arrived in the mail...

My HOE Biscornu exchange from my exchange partner, Carol R who lives in the UK.

The beautiful biscornu is stitched on white linen in lovely pastel colours, on both sides and has small with beads on the joining seam. It is stitched so beautifully, and Carol even stitch our initials and the date on the back. From the picture you can tell that Carol totally spoilt me with the extras she so kindly included.

This is a front and back view of the biscornu which Carol has personalised with our initials and the year.

The biscornu has a new home on my kitchen dresser with my growing collection of rolls, fobs and other smalls.

Thank you Carol, for being such a generous exchange partner, you have made my first exchange memorable.

A new look...

I was reading Stephine's blog, liked her new look, saw the link to the wonderful freebie templates/layouts and thought I have a go!

Well, got the changes, added some of my side bar bits, but still can't workout how to put my blog name back up in the place it should be.

Biscornu ..

I'm very happy to be able to say that I have just finished my first biscornu. I was surprised how easy it was to sew together - it was nice to be able to say this is a totally hand sewn item. The only thing I had a few hassles with is putting the buttons on - the thread kept breaking until I changed the button. I am certain to make more of these.

As this is a gift for my exchange partner for the Hooked on Exchange, Biscornu Exchange I am unable to post a photo for a few weeks.

I must also say, that not a lot of stitching has been done in the last weeks as I have been busy doing office work for the farm - it's all done now so I can do some serious stitching now.

Stitching wishes...

As I am going to participate in a couple of exchanges over the next few months and after looking at several other blogs, I have decided to create a wishes blog to record my stitching likes and dislikes. I thought that it maybe useful to my exchange partner to know what I liked. A link to my wishes blog is to the right of the page under 'Wishes'.

My stitching addiction is mainly for Shepherd's Bush designs, which over the years I have stitched exclusively. And during this time I have developed a liking to needleroll, fobs and other small items that I can put on display.What I especially like with the SB designs are the cute little people, the lambs, use of charms, beading and different stitches and threads.

I'm very much into the colours navy, dusty pink and olive greens and cream. My basic thread stash consists of DMC's 3721, 3722, 223, 224, 225, 3011, 3012, 3013, along with the majority of colours that the SB girls use.

After reading other stitching blogs, I am starting to like a few designs from other designers.

I will say that I'm not into Halloween or Thanksgiving, as these are not days that we celebrate here in Australia. Nor am I into religious themes even though I have religious beliefs.

I also like, traditional teas (not herbal), and yes, I have the belief that you only drink tea from bone china - it does taste better! I collect 'Calico' by Burleighware Staffordshire, England. I use and love pretty sticky notes, cards and note paper.

You could say I'm into pretty in a classy way.

Yesterday, I had a productive afternoon working on one exchange item, sorry but can't say any more.

Not much happening...

It has been a few days since I last posted anything. Slack I know, but I have been busy trying to get some order around the house. Something, we all have to do occasionally.

On the stitching front, I have been working on small projects for the exchanges that I have sign up for. So, can't say any more than that for the moment, will tell more when I have sent off the exchanges and they have been received by my partners.

Another thing I have been doing is converting info from my old computer to my new one - and it is taking some time to sort it all out, plus I'm learning how to use my laptop at the same time. Very different from a normal computer - but I am having fun!!

Another one finished...

With the boys having left to go bike riding for the day I have the whole day to myself. I have planned a day totally doing what I like - updating my blog, emails, once this is done I'll stitch and watch the afternoon movies. Wonderful!!

Last night I finally finished 'Sophie's Roses'. But have just realised that I need to sign and date it. I started SR sometime during 2006 and have slowly been working on it until last weekend when I decided that I needed to finish it !

My collection of finished pieces for framing is quickly growing. Maybe I need to make some of the smaller pieces into projects that I can stitch up and not need to frame. With a couple of them I'd like to get the special handpainted mats from Jill Rensel.

My big descission now is - what to start or do I go and do a little bit to 'The Herb Gatherer' ?? I can happily say that 'The Herb Gatherer' is my only UFO. or start a new project, I have a few that I can choose from.

I'm off to make my choice and start ...

A great day for stitching ...

It's cool, overcast and more rain is predicted over the next few days. In the last few days we have been lucky enough to receive 48.5mm or 194points.

Last week's finishes were -

Shepherd's Purse and Needleroll, Spring Scissor Fob and In my Garden Scissor Fob. It was great to get them finished.

Over the weekend I was able to finish 'A Rosey Garden' by SB. Very happy with it - can't wait to get it framed as it came with beautiful hand painted mats , hopefully in time for the local agricultural show which is early May. Very pleased as I only started this one last Tuesday night.

I am now working on finishing 'Sophies Roses'. This is a kit I started a couple of years ago, it will be interesting to see how long it takes me to finish it.

Then the only thing left in my WIP basket is 'Herb Gatherer - which is half done - it's next on the list.

I've finally joined the blogging world...

I have created this blog so that I can share my stitching happenings and acheivements with others that have a stitching habit.

I have a great passion for designs by the clever girls at Shepherds Bush. Over time I have become a SB addict, so much so, that now my stitching is exclusive to SB designs and I have been this way for almost 15 years.

I do other stitching such as embroidery using ribbons, beads and old laces, stitchery quilts - backstitch pieces in patchwork quilts and some scrapbooking and have developed a liking to 'fabric scrapping -' which is using fabric bits with scrapbooking and I scrap the journey of my stitching projects along with our family life.
